All mountain bike riders 15 years old or older shall be assigned, according to their ability, to one of the following categories: Beginner, Sport, Expert, Semi-Pro (men only), or Pro.
Cat 3: A category designed for the entry-level rider. Beginner races help the rider understand the subtleties of the Sport allowing one to experience the thrill of mountain biking. After placing in the top five in five races, a Beginner racer must advance to the Sport category.  Riders can voluntarily move up to sport at any time.
Cat 2: A category that reflects improved skills and developed strength and stamina. A rider must advance to Expert after placing in the top five in five races.
Cat 1: A category where racing skills, strength and stamina have reached an exceptional level; racing is very competitive
Semi-Pro: A mountain bike racing category that allows riders to fine tune their racing stamina and technical skills before entering the Professional ranks.
Eligibility. Riders must race in the category indicated on their licenses, under penalty of suspension. It is the rider’s responsibility to enter and compete in the correct class and category. The fact that the registration crew let the rider enter an incorrect class or category will not be accepted as an excuse.
