The new Tarmac represents a breakthrough in race bike design, combining the lightest frame the UCI allows with the fastest aerodynamic performance ever achieved. Specialized has eliminated the traditional compromise between weight and speed by utilizing advanced technologies including the FreeFoil Shape Library and Rider-First Engineered™ frame design. The result is a bike that is 45 seconds faster over 40km than the previous Tarmac SL6, with no compromises to speed, weight, stiffness, or ride quality. Aerodynamics were the primary focus of the Tarmac's development. The design team used the FreeFoil Shape Library—a collection of optimized tube shapes—and extensive wind tunnel testing to create the fastest frame possible within UCI regulations. The frame weighs just 800 grams while maintaining full aerodynamic efficiency and structural integrity. Weight was equally important to the development process. Rather than accepting the traditional trade-off where reducing drag increases weight, the engineering team kept the frame at or below the UCI weight limit without sacrificing any aerodynamic performance. This was achieved through isotopic FEA analysis and advanced engineering techniques. Handling and ride quality were refined using Specialized's Rider-First Engineered™ philosophy, with input from world-class test riders from three World Tour Teams. The geometry was balanced across all frame sizes to ensure consistent handling characteristics and comfort over long rides, while maintaining the Tarmac's legendary snappiness and race-winning performance. The cockpit features clean, integrated routing that works with any drivetrain configuration—mechanical or electronic shifting, traditional stems, and round bars—while maintaining aerodynamic efficiency. The design also simplifies maintenance and travel preparation.
